Ruth is 19 and is in her first year of studying Maths and Philosophy at the University of Bristol. She first recognised the importance of challenging mental health stigma through her own battle with mental illness, and, as a campaigner at heart, looked to find ways to tackle the discrimination and shame that surrounds having mental ill-health when she moved to the city in September 2017. After hearing about Freedom of Mind through her University’s LGBT+ Society, she applied to become a Content Creator, passionate about giving people a space to talk about their experiences, be inspired by other people’s journey through ill-health and the process of recovery, and begin those conversations that can break down the stigma attached to having mental ill-health. She is excited to work with the rest of the Freedom of Mind team to create this inclusive and open environment in the city of Bristol and beyond! In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar, endlessly talking politics, and going to one of the many pubs and bars in Bristol with her mates.
